Consulting Approach
Building learning organizations
Purposeful
It is important to have a clear purpose for all efforts and clearly defined goals. As each engagement can range from general evaluation support to using data to facilitating organizational change, it is helpful to be intentional about where on this continuum each engagement will fall.
Flexible
While there should be clearly defined goals for the engagement, it is also important to be nimble and responsive to the needs of each client. Additionally, the approach should be adaptive to allow for capturing unanticipated outcomes and emergent learnings.
Equitable
The engagement process should make cultural and linguistic accommodations to be inclusive of all participants. Such accommodations may include, but are not limited to, accounting for scheduling needs and constraints of the community, offering childcare, using culturally appropriate tools and methods, and providing interpretive services when needed. All participants of evaluation activities should feel respected, valued, and heard.
Collaborative
To the extent possible, the evaluation activities should be designed collaboratively with clients to ensure that proposed approaches will be effective and culturally appropriate. This also serves to builds the capacity of clients to conduct evaluation activities on their own. Findings should also be shared back with participants, including them in the process of interpreting findings and developing recommendations.
